Nugget Point
hello blog!
So I’ll start off the story of this adventure with some exciting (and crazy) news! WE BOUGHT A CAR!! Her name is Polly, she is a Mazda Minivan and she has insurance! Its been a wild couple of days, but we have gotten the title transferred over to us, the car paid for and the insurance acquired. There are four of us that bought Polly together: Dylan, Amy, Kaelin and myself.
The Polly Trolley’s first adventure was a short hour and a half drive to Nugget Point. Kaelin drove us down to the point, while the rest of us played riddle games and watched the New Zealand countryside roll by. It was a beautiful drive, but none of it compared to the views along the coast once we had arrived. It was a short hike from the car park to the point and throughout the walk, I couldn’t help but notice how different this location would be in the United States. I’m sure it would be crawling with tourists and people trying to catch a glimpse of something beautiful. There would be a gift shop and people carrying selfie sticks for sure. Here in New Zealand, there is not a single other group of people in sight. It felt so sacred and cool to experience such an amazing spot by ourselves. We took pictures and took in the views and we laughed and talked about how cool our lives are right now! It was the best day.
Nugget Point was definitely a great entry adventure into our time here in New Zealand. Its called Nugget Point because of the nuggets of rock sticking up out of the water just off of the coastline. On a day like the one we had, the sun was shining across the water and it didn’t feel like winter in the slightest! I actually had to take off my mellie because I was sweating during the hike and on our way back to the car.
I volunteered to drive back home since it was only an hour and a half and I need practice driving on the left side of the road. After we stopped for lunch at a small seafood dive, I nervously got into the driver’s seat and began the journey. To my surprise its actually not that difficult to drive on the left side of the road and the right side of the car. The only thing that I had trouble with was remembering that the turn signal is on the opposite side as well (I kept accidentally turning on the windshield wipers hahaha). We had no issues on the drive home, and I feel proud of myself for getting us all back safely! Cant wait for another adventure in the Polly Trolley!
