Moeraki Boulders and Long Beach

Moeraki Boulders and Long Beach

Hello blog!

I’m writing to you on Sunday, July 7th, the day before school starts!! This whole week has been so much fun; zero responsibilities and nowhere to be. I was able to meet so many cool international students and travel to some freaking awesome nearby spots. Dunedin is such a fun town!

Now its back to reality - school is starting tomorrow and I NEED to get my shit together! I’m taking this Sunday to get organized and back into a school-time headspace.

In addition to getting organized and ready for tomorrow, I’ll also give you an update on what I’ve been up to the past couple of days. On Friday, the Polly Trolley (plus our new friend Cameron) headed to the Moeraki Boulders. The boulders are special because they are all very symmetrical and perfectly round for unknown reasons. They are located along the coastline, so were obviously shaped by water erosion. It was a pretty cold and windy day for a trip to the beach, but the five of us had a blast messing around.

To be completely honest, the boulders were a little underwhelming. They’re not really even boulders, but just some round rocks on a beach lol. Still worth the trip though!!

Although the Moeraki Boulders weren’t that cool, the best part of the day was the meal we had in the Moeraki fishing village nearby. We all ordered wine and dined on the freshest fish I have EVER tasted. It was hella expensive, but one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We all laughed so much that I cried, which is rare and awesome. I love the gang of friends that I’ve made so far.

Friday night, we all hung out at Amy’s flat (about 15 people) and watched old episodes of black mirror. It was lowkey, but so enjoyable. There’s something about watching other people watch your favorite shows for the first time thats just so fun for no reason.

On Saturday, the Polly Trolley (plus Cam) ventured out to Long Beach to do some climbing and exploring. Before hitting Long beach, we also made a trip to the local Farmer’s Market, which did not disappoint. After acquiring some free samples and coffee, we started the journey to Long Beach which is about a 30 minute drive from campus. Dylan and Amy brought all of their climbing gear (because they’re really into climbing) and me and Kaelin and Cam just mooched off of their equipment since we don’t have our own. We spent the day climbing rock walls that overlook the coastline (it was so beautiful I thought I would die). I also took a sun snooze on the beach and swung in a nearby tire swing - it was a very wholesome experience.

After we had climbed to our heart’s content, we got back in the Polly Trolley and headed to the grocery store to buy dinner and food for the week! I had all the intentions of cooking myself a great dinner, but when I had arrived home my flatmates had already made a feast. I ended up just stealing their leftovers and calling it good. Next, me and my roomies decided to go downtown and see the new spider-man movie because Tom Holland is just too dang cute and we had to see it. Loved the movie and loved the entire bag of peanut m&ms that I ate during it (whoops).

After the movie, I went to Dylan and Cam’s and hung out there for awhile before going out and meeting up with other people. Great night, great people, great fun. Loving life rn

Wish me luck at school this week (hope I don’t fail my classes or get deported!)

Thanks for reading :)
